Manganese and Health
Manganese, as a trace mineral element, is found in all forms
of life. It is mainly derived from green vegetables, fruits,
nuts,
egg yolks, instant coffee, tea, cocoa powder, and beef liver.
It is essential to the health
and functioning of the whole human
body, brain and mind.
In terms of physical health, the micro mineral manganese is
important to almost all of the bodys major systems. It
starts
working in the digestive system, which is responsible for
breaking down foods through digestion and with the help of
enzymes, and amino acids, manganese transforms them into
a form that the body can use.
The primary functions of manganese in the digestive system
includes acting as a cofactor in many of the enzymes respon-
sible for releasing the energy in the food. This combination
makes manganese assessable to both body, brain and mind,
to fuel both the essential and nonessential functions.
Thiamin, or Vitamin B1, which helps release the energy from
the carbohydrates that you eat, and are necessary for a healthy
brain, nerve cells, and a healthy heart, cannot be metabolized
without the presence of this essential micro mineral manganese
It takes the combination of zinc, copper, and manganese to
supply calcium to
skeletal system to build strong bones.
Without it the skeleton may not develop properly.
Manganese also serves the nervous system and brain, which
sends messages to the muscles. Therefore with the help of
manganese, muscles can perform good muscular reflexes.
It also serves the reproductive system, having an important
role in the production of sex hormones and sperm.
Manganese has vital antioxidant properties, It works as a co-
factor in the production of the bodys most important anti-
oxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase. Antioxidants perform
the control of, or stabilization of free radicals, which are
re-
sponsible for a great deal of damage within the body.
Manganese is necessary for the brain to function properly. It
serves to support memory and emotional stability, as well as
the nerves themselves. It is required for normal bone growth
and development throughout life, for cell function and normal
reproduction.
Researchers are studying the relationship between epilepsy
and other seizure disorders and the influence manganese
levels may have on seizure activity and severity. This mineral
is also being investigated for its potentials in the treatment
of
severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia.
Deficiencies in manganese can contribute to convulsions,
confusion, tremors, dizziness, paralysis, deafness and
blindness in infants and adult.
It is worth getting a mineral analysis to really find out what
our mineral balance is. Many major diseases and illnesses
can be turned around with the proper nutrients. Always reach
for quality products.
