Dust Mite Allergies
So what can be done about dust mite allergies? Plenty
- here is a list of some things to do each week.
Wash your bedding material - pillowcases and sheets every
week in hot water.
Wash all bedding materials - the pillowcases, sheets, mattress
pads and
blankets every other week in hot water (130 °F). Your bedspread
needs addressed also, so it may be best to invest in something
washable.
To keep dust mites level down, enclose mattresses,
box springs and pillows in zippered allergen and dust-proof covers.
Any stuffed toys need to be washable. They may need to be
put in zippered bags when not in use, rather than just being
put on a shelf.
When you have dust mite allergies, you need to take
a look at everything.
Next look at your wall hangings and drapes. Take down your
wall hangings that can harbor dust and dust mites. Invest in
drapes that can be washed or just use shades that can be washed
down.
Remove your carpets and replace with tile or wood floors.
At the very least, do this in the room the allergic person sleeps.
Vacuum often with a vacuum cleaner that has a high efficiency
purifying air filtration system (HEPA filter). Vacuum your drapes,
upholstered furniture and floors. Throw away vacuum bags after
use because dust mites can leave the bag.
Be sure to include the use of Air Purifiers in your home to keep the
dust mite particles pulled out of the air as much as possible.
Continue to clean and wash bedding often, while you work with
the reason you have dust mite allergies - your immune system
is imbalanced.
